Sky TV has confirmed broadcasting rights for the 2022 NASCAR series have been renewed in full.
All remaining rounds of the championship will be broadcast live on Sky, as it has been for years past.
“It’s back,” a Sky representative told us on Monday.
The first race of the year to be shown live on Sky is this week’s DuraMAX 400 at Dover Motor Speedway.
The event is round 11 in the 36-round championship, leaving Kiwi fans in the dark to watch the first ten races.
Luckily, the internet is a prominent thing nowadays, and you can kinda legally stream anything you want if you search hard enough.
Sky never explained why they had difficulty retaining the rights for the 2022 season, telling us in February they were “working on it” with NASCAR.
Sky’s rivals Spark Sport told us at the same time they were not interested in picking up the rights for the 2022 season.
Motorsport content remains divided between Sky and Spark.
Spark has the rights to Formula 1 and its feeder series, as well as the WRC and MotoGP.
Meanwhile, Sky broadcasts Supercars, WEC, IndyCar, IMSA, World and British Superbikes, and NASCAR.
It’s a nuisance for many Kiwi racing fans who either pay subscriptions for both services or forgo one and miss out on some of the action.
