SVG to run Ambrose-inspired livery at Darlington Throwback Weekend

Shane van Gisbergen will race in this weekend’s NASCAR Official Throwback Weekend at Darlington sporting a yellow and black colour scheme in honour of two-time V8 Supercar Champion and NASCAR race winner Marcos Ambrose

The Kaulig Racing entry’s Quad Lock wrap resembles that of Ambrose’s Ford Fusion when he claimed his first NASCAR win for Richard Petty Motorsports at Watkins Glen in 2011.

“This one’s for everyone 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫,” Trackhouse Racing said in a social media post sharing the news. “Quad Lock joins Shane van Gisbergen to honour Marcos Ambrose at Darlington.”

Ambrose sported the yellow and black wrap for his maiden NASCAR Cup Series win at Watkins Glen in 2011.

The Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway was introduced to the NASCAR calendar in 2015.

For the spring event at the South Carolina oval, Truck Series, Xfinity Series, and Cup Series teams run alternate throwback paint schemes.

The 2024 theme is ‘Celebrate our Roots through Grassroots Racing’, honouring the racing origins of drivers, owners, team members and NASCAR as a whole.

Van Gisbergen has received help from the Australian during his transition into the North American racing scene from Supercars.

Ambrose, a two-time V8 Supercars champion, moved his career to the United States in 2006 and ran a partial season in the Truck Series, finishing 19th overall, before stepping up into the Busche Series in 2007.

He made 227 Cup Series starts in seven years, winning two races and finishing in the top ten 46 times. His first victory came at Watkins Glen in 2011.

This weekend’s Xfinity Series qualifying begins at 9.35 am on Saturday, with the race at 5.30 am on Sunday.
