The roar of classic motorsport will once again echo across Canterbury this Waitangi Weekend as the 36th annual SKOPE Classic takes centre stage at Euromarque Motorsport Park, Ruapuna.

Presented as the Canterbury Car Club’s marquee event, the SKOPE Classic has firmly cemented itself as a must-do on the international classic motorsport calendar, attracting competitors and fans from across New Zealand and around the globe.

This year’s meeting will feature over 250 competitors, delivering one of the most diverse and exciting classic racing fields seen anywhere in the country. Nearly 130 classic and historic saloon cars, split across four grids, will provide wall-to-wall action, including the thunderous spectacle of V8-powered Central Muscle Cars and Mainland Muscle Cars competing together in a combined grid.

Adding to the on-track action will be the ever-popular Formula 5000 cars, whose raw power and unmistakable sound continue to captivate crowds year after year.

A guaranteed fan favourite will be the 32-car grid of John Fairhall Historic Touring Cars, featuring an outstanding collection of genuine machines spanning Group A, Group N and Super Tourer eras — a true rolling museum of touring car history is brought vividly to life on track.

The programme is further bolstered by the variety and depth that define the SKOPE Classic. The Formula Libre class will showcase an electric mix of sports cars and single-seaters, while the Vintage Car Club brings preserved racing machines from motorsport’s earliest eras.

Joining the 2026 event is the Formula Junior Historic Racing Association, marking the New Zealand leg of their Platinum Jubilee World Tour — a significant international addition that underscores the event’s global standing.

Off track, the SKOPE Classic offers something for the whole family. With bouncy castles and family-friendly entertainment, younger fans are well catered for, while many spectators will find that exploring the pits rivals the on-track action, with close-up access to cars and drivers.

“There truly is something for everyone,” organisers say.

“Whether you’re a lifelong motorsport enthusiast or a family looking for a great day out, the SKOPE Classic delivers.”

For those unable to attend in person, both Saturday and Sunday will be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube, ensuring fans around the world don’t miss a moment.
