ThreeNow secures MotoGP streaming rights in NZ

Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ have added to their quickly growing motorsport portfolio by securing rights to screen MotoGP in New Zealand.

The MotoGP World Championship, including every practice and qualifying session, the new Tissot Sprint for MotoGP, and the Grand Prix races of MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3, will be streamed live on ThreeNow.

It’s the second significant addition of motorsport to the service provider in as many months, following February’s accrual of NASCAR and the Xfinity Series.

The race coverage, which kicks off on Saturday, 9 March, will live stream in HD and be ad-break-free during races.

The streaming service will also show races from the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship – also known as MotoE- an electric competition racing alongside MotoGP at eight Grands Prix across Europe.

In October, and closer to home, fans of two-wheel racing can catch all the action from the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, and follow the successes of Aussie riders Joel Kelso and Jacob Roulstone in Moto3, Senna Agius in Moto2 and multiple Grand Prix winner Jack Miller, who is set to battle it out in the premier class, MotoGP.

Highlights from the FIM MotoGPā„¢ World Championship and FIM Enel MotoE World Championship will also be available each Sunday on CRC Motorsport on Three and ThreeNow.

That’s a shame. ThreeNow has no ‘watch it the next day’ option.

So how long would coverage be available to watch. Eg a Sunday evening Asian round will that be available on Monday to view….

Currently ThreeNow has no replays available. You either watch it live or not at all.

Hmmm…. That’s a pain. Why would they bother picking up the rights as I imagine only the very ardent followers would watch live on a Sunday…..no benefit to advertisers….. Might have to investigate paying for alternative source…….

It would be better if TV Three and Warner Bros showed it on regular TV so we could record the races that happen at 3 in the morning in EU and watch them at a decent time in NZ

Discovery Warners are a corporate piggery. Last year they took downhill mountain biking away from great worldwide Red Bull TV free streaming/replays and stuck it behind a paywall – grow the audience they said – that sport is on life support already. Through intra corporate scheming they’ve snatched MotoGP off free to air and streaming at TVNZ+ and grown the audience at 2am Monday mornings. The connivance and greed of sport corporates like Dorna in erecting paywall barriers or in NZs case just screwing the enthusiastic supporters over (in tough enough times, already) will only shrink interest around the globe. I originally got Sky to watch motocross (gone) U S supercross (gone) MotoGP (gone to sleep instead) and world SBKs (how much longer?)

Thank you Warner Bros. Much respect. Motogp is awesome. Thanks for giving us Kiwis a chance to watch the racing, unlike Sky sport that stopped airing it year’s ago.

Coverage with TVNZ+ of the past year was good with most practises and races available on demand for a couple of weeks. If TV3 is only showing it live I can see it going the way of newshub. No advertising revenue so it gone.

Hmmm, flicked on the TV to watch via the app this morning, expecting to see practice.
No, app kept crashing. Jumped on the iPad and it’s just endless graphics of the program opening.
If we can only watch it live, I may have to shell out for the MotoGP Video Pass.

Absolutely useless being live only. I thought TVNZ+. said last year they had the rights till 2028. Why bid for the rights to MotoGP then make it incredibly difficult for kiwis to watch due time zone. No wonder three is in trouble.

Fully agree with all of the comments on here. TVNZ you could watch it at a time that suited you and just avoid any reports about the results. Hardly anyone is going to be awake to watch it live on NZ. Total waste of time for three to have the broadcast rights.

Man , I agree with most of you. Three dropped the ball with this coverage. Along with posting the wrong viewing times they failed to allow on demand viewing. I suppose that is what you get when the broadcast is by TNT , another in house company of Warner Discovery entertainment.I assumed the times listed were the West Coast US times.TNT have made big thing about getting the US coverage from Dorna. That is most why Warner Discovery have snatched the showing rights from TVNZ. Dont know who the commentary team were but looks like some TNT crowd thrown together at the last minute. Wonder if Three will have a better summary coverage on their Sunday afternoon delayed version.

When Spark Sport took it off Sky it doubled the cost to watch both World SBK and MotoGP šŸ™ When Spark Sport folded TVNZ+ for free was a bonus but I wondered if they’d keep paying for it as I bet it isn’t cheap to get the rights. I’d personally be happy for Sky to get it back as it makes the cost more worth it and it would be recordable. I really only have Sky Sport for motorbike racing and force myself to watch other things to feel its worth the cost. Try finding a good screen recorder app. My first attempt on laptop wasn’t too successful. Going to try an android app next.

TVNZ coverage last year was so much better. TV3s lack of on demand facility is useless when races are mostly run really late at night or early morning NZ time.

Guys running TV3+ have zero idea what they’re doing, no working guy can watch this sport live, so they’ve basically denied it to NZ MotoGP fans. Moto is the premier motorcycle sport in the World and we can’t see it because of the clueless antics these supposed businessmen. Hope they go broke.

I abso;utely agree with all the raised comments regarding current lack of viewing of MotoGP this year.
Recall when Spark won the rights to Rugby World Cup. I paid them the fee they asked & watched half a match, then quit in frustration. Didn’t even bother asking for refund. Too P—–D off!!
Last year was great. Hoped this year was going to be as good FAIL TOTAL.

I totally agree with every single comment on this forum, Three Now have totally dropped the ball, even if they do show it on CRC motorsport a week later, it’s a pain trying to avoid the results before watching.
I’ve written to Three now via messenger and no reply whatsoever, I’ve resorted to watching YouTube highlights (cos I’m too tight to pay for the motogp app)

There were 3 of us in the same house who are GP fans. But now we’re split between 2 homes and only one home can watch it live in the app. Thanks Dorna….not!

Guess we’ll get the tv3 app on the tv! Cota is a decent time this weekend at least!
