Valtteri Bottas joins Alfa Romeo for the 2022 season on a multi year deal

After many rumours were floating around the Formula 1 scene as to who would be taking the seat of legend Kimi Raikkonen after his retirement.

All rumours can be put aside now as we have determined one of the possible two changes for the Alfa Romeo driver lineup for next season.

Current Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas was always in question of keeping his seat at the team with rookie George Russell likely to take over his reigns.

The announcement for the Mercedes seat hasn’t come yet but commentators on Sunday were telling the crowds to keep their ears and eyes peeled in the coming 7 days.

Antonio Giovinazzi is also yet to renew his seat at Alfa Romeo with talks of a possible second new driver to enter the 2022 pair.

Talks of Alex Albon returning to F1 have been discussed by team bosses Christian Horner of Red Bull and Toto Wolff of Mercedes.

Wolff held a strong opinion that Albon should stay away from Williams due to their connection with Mercedes (in terms of their engine).

As well as Albon still being an active driver for Red Bull as a reserve driver in their F1 team and a current DTM competitor alongside Liam Lawson.

As for the newest addition to the Italian team, Valtteri said in his press release:

“A new chapter in my racing career is opening: I’m excited to join Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN for 2022 and beyond for what is going to be a new challenge with an iconic manufacturer”.

The Finn is a 9 time Grand Prix winner, with 17 pole positions, and 63 podium finishes.

This change opens up a new chance for Valterri to experience fighting in amongst the pack. His usual role was the keep Hamilton in the lead but now he may well be the number 1 driver.

Additionally, the new 2022 regulations will see an all new chassis with various technical changes to the cars which should lead to much closer racing.

Who do you think will secure the second seat at Alfa Romeo?
