The Canterbury Car Club has been officially recognised by MotorSport New Zealand as the 2026 Club of the Year, earning a place on the organisation’s Honours Roll following an extraordinary year of achievement, growth, and leadership in New Zealand motorsport.

The prestigious citation recognises the club’s outstanding contribution to the sport during 2025, including the successful delivery of 51 events — more than any other club in the country — and providing competitive opportunities for 1,622 participants. The club’s activities represented more than 10 percent of all motorsport participation nationwide.
MotorSport New Zealand praised the Canterbury Car Club for setting “the benchmark for excellence,” highlighting not only the scale of its event programme, but also the consistency, professionalism, and accessibility of its operations across all levels of motorsport.
From grassroots ClubSport through to premier circuit racing, the club was commended for delivering well-run, highly regarded events that continue to serve competitors, officials, volunteers, and fans alike.
A major factor in the award recognition was the club’s extensive work preparing its circuit to host a Supercars event. Despite significant time pressures, the Canterbury Car Club successfully completed critical safety upgrades and infrastructure improvements, demonstrating exceptional commitment, capability, and long-term vision.
MotorSport New Zealand also acknowledged the club’s continued investment in sustainable venue development, ensuring the facility will meet the highest standards well into the future.
“This award reflects the passion and dedication of our volunteers, officials, competitors, sponsors, and wider motorsport community,” the Canterbury Car Club said. “It’s an honour to be recognised nationally and a proud moment for everyone involved.”
The citation was signed by MotorSport New Zealand President Deborah Day and officially inscribed onto the MotorSport New Zealand Honours Roll.
