Cassidy and Evans debut race in Miami frustratingly finishing without points

The inaugural Miami ePrix at Homestead-Miami Speedway has been run and won, and it was one to forget for the Jaguar TCS Racing pair of Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans, with the two finishing in 15th and 16th respectively.

Despite showing strong pace in practice, Cassidy and Evans would qualify for the race in P13 and P14. Both drivers managed to avoid trouble at the start, navigating through the field and into points-scoring positions.

On lap 16, Cassidy activated four minutes of Attack Mode, increasing his Jaguar I-TYPE 7’s power from 300kW to 350kW and engaging all-wheel drive. He began moving up the field when a safety car was deployed, nullifying his remaining 1 minute and 30 seconds of Attack Mode advantage and significantly impacting his race.

Later, on lap 20, Evans was caught in an incident between Maximilian Günther of DS Penske and Jake Hughes of Maserati in the turn 10/11 chicane. With the other two cars stopped in front of him, Evans had nowhere to go, effectively ending his race. This incident triggered another safety car, followed by a red flag.

The race restarted at 15:00 local time, with Cassidy in P8, but with only four laps remaining. Despite crossing the line in 8th place, Cassidy received a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits, confirming his final result at P15. Evans, who was able to restart from the back of the grid, finished P16.

Reigning Champion Pascal Wehrlein would win the race for Porsche, his first of the 2024-25 season, crossing the line with over a five second lead to Lucas di Grassi who finished second, while António Félix da Costa would round out the podium in third.

Following their difficult race, Evans now sits 10th in the 2024/25 Formula E World Championship standings, with teammate Cassidy in 18th.

The series now has a three-week break before the double-header in Monaco, a track where Evans and Cassidy have achieved a 1-2 finish in the last two years (with Cassidy winning in 2023, Evans in 2024). The pair will be hoping to bounce back after what has been an extremely difficult start to the season for the team.
