Evans conquers Rome

Mitch Evans resurrected his Formula E title hopes, claiming his third career win in Rome overnight.

It was a dominant, emphatic victory, especially given Evans only qualified ninth.

However, his race pace was far superior to his rivals. Plus, Jaguar made the wise call to use their attack mode later than their rivals.

Immediately, Evans began scything through the field. By lap 18, the Kiwi was in the lead.

Luckily, motorsport has no mercy rule, and Evans gave everyone an absolute thumping. He led by nearly ten seconds at one point.

“We knew we’d be strong but not this strong,” he said. “The car was just fantastic and the team gave me one of the best races I’ve ever had.”

Evans’ first Formula E triumph also happened in Rome. But today felt just as special as that particular race two years ago.

“The win here feels just as special as the last but for different reasons. The first one is always special because everyone wants to get the monkey off their back.”

Evans’ lead at the chequered flag was 5.7 seconds. He slowed on the final two laps to eliminate any risk.

Before the weekend, Evans’ had only scored one championship point this season. He will be the first to tell you that 2022 has been a dismal year.

His win surges him up to eighth in the championship standings.

“We’ve struggled with points since the start of the season, so to bag a load of points has come at a really good time.”

Nick Cassidy had a clean race and picked up some points in P9. The other Kiwi in the field also made progress from his qualifying position.

Formula E has one more race this weekend. That starts at 1 am on Monday.
