Broc Feeney will start this evening’s opening race of the Melbourne SuperSprint from the pole, while Cam Waters begins Friday’s sole outing at the front.

Feeney’s late 1:47.7148 in the first of two 15-minute timed qualifying sessions was enough to secure the top spot from Dick Johnson Racing’s Anton De Pasquale by 0.1532 seconds. Mostert fell to third and has championship leader Will Brown for company on the second row.

De Pasquale’s fastest lap came well after the chequered flag and moved him to the front row, ahead of Chaz Mostert, who remained in the pits as provisional pole-sitter ahead of the final circuits.

Matt Payne qualified as the best of the Kiwis in fifth, having sat behind Mostert on the leaderboard but also remaining in the pits and dropping to fifth.

Richie Stanaway starts this evening’s race from eighth as the second-best Kiwi and Cam Waters is seventh alongside him.

Bryce Fullwood and Todd Hazelwood complete the top ten

Ryan Wood continues to get to terms with an unfamiliar circuit and improved on his practice times for 18th, while Andre Heimgartner starts 22nd.

Jaxon Evans, who was fifth in opening practice, locked up at Turn 1 on each of his two flying laps and starts from the rear of the grid as a result.

Waters’s 1:47.4916 was the fastest in the second 15-minute run and came with one minute remaining.

Brown and Feeney sat at the top of the leaderboard until that point but had remained in pit lane as the Tickford Mustang went faster. Brown will start off the front row, with Feeney third, next to Mark Winterbottom.

Payne was again the best of the Kiwis, finishing fifth, having led at the halfway point. De Pasquale earned another respectable result, finishing sixth, ahead of Le Brocq, Davison, Mostert, and Stanaway, who completed the top ten.

Wood improved again for 15th, as did Evans for 18th. Heimgartner had a challenging run in Melbourne and qualified 21st for Race 4, following his earlier result of 22nd.

Localised yellows at Turn 3 in the final minute jeopardised several lap times, with Tim Slade finding the dirt before his Nulon Racing teammate James Golding spun in the same place.

Slade was able to return to the track with minimal impact, while Golding sat on the kerb inside the turn for some time.

The opening race of the Melbourne SuperSprint begins at 7.55 pm this evening, with the second following at 4.55 pm on Friday.
