Jaxon Evans confirmed for debut Bathurst 1000; All drivers now confirmed

The Bathurst 1000 lineup is now confirmed, the last co-driver position for Brad Jones Racing being secured by none-other than Kiwi racer Jaxon Evans.

Fresh off his victory in the 12 Hours of Nürburgring, Evans was quickly on the plane to Australia to complete an evaluation with the team at Winton Motor Raceway. The evaluation was a success, the team immediately confirming the partnership between Evans and Supercar stalwart Jack Smith.

Most commonly associated with Porsche, having signed a multi-year deal with the outfit early this year, the 26-year-old will be returning to a Supercar after last driving one over four years ago.

A seasoned endurance racing, Evans currently competes in the WEC as well as select rounds of the Nürburgring Endurance Series, GT World Challenge Europe and the ADAC GT Masters.

Bathurst, however, is a whole different ballgame, which Evans recognised in a release shared by BJR following the announcement.

“Endurance racing isn’t new to me, and neither is Bathurst but heading there in a Supercar is definitely going to be a pinch me moment,” he said.

“The car felt very comfortable from the outset and the team has been so enthusiastic and welcoming, I’m feeling really confident about heading to Bathurst alongside Jack and the whole BJR and SCT Motorsport team.”

Smith and Evans are not unknown to each other, having previously competed together for Birel Kart Team in their karting days.

Smith was the last driver on the grid to confirm his partner for the race, the full field now confirmed.

Along with Evans, a strong Kiwi contingent is set to grace the famous Mount Panorama circuit.

Full-time drivers Shane van Gisbergen, Andre Heimgartner and Chris Pither will take the grid, as will Fabian Coulthard as he partners with Chaz Mostert, Matt Payne with Lee Holdsworth and the wildcard entry of Supercar veteran’s Richie Stanaway and Greg Murphy.

The next round on the calendar, the Bathurst 1000 will take place over the weekend of October 6-9.
