New Zealander Ryan Wood is well-positioned to win the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy today at the ITM Christchurch Super 440.
Today’s race at Ruapuna Raceway is the last of six in the past eight days across Taupō and Christchurch.
First awarded in 2013, the JR Trophy is awarded to the Supercars driver who scores the most points in the Championship’s New Zealand races, and is named in honour of the well-liked Kiwi Supercars driver who succumbed to cancer in 2011.
Scott McLaughlin, Shane van Gisbergen, and Matt Payne are the only other Kiwis to win the JR Trophy previously.
Wood holds a 33-point margin over Brodie Kostecki in the JR standings. Kostecki and Broc Feeney currently third and 51 points behind Wood are the main contenders in the two-event battle.
Today’s action will also cap what has been a hugely successful debut for Supercars on the South Island of New Zealand, with large Friday crowd, a Saturday sell out, and another strong crowd expected today.
On-track action in Christchurch resumes this morning with Supercars Boost Mobile Qualifying from 11:50 a.m. NZST, followed by a Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 12:45 p.m. to finalise the grid for Sunday afternoon’s 61-lap race.
Race 13 of the 2026 Supercars season then begins at 3:05 p.m. NZST.
