Kiwis Around the World This Weekend

This weekend sees several Kiwi drivers in action around the world, with IndyCar, F2 and Indy Lights all having New Zealand drivers in the field. For all information, including run times and where to watch, see below.

F2: France Le Castellet

Marcus Armstrong and Liam Lawson will need a strong weekend to remain in the hunt in the Formula 2 Championship following a disappointing feature race in Austria last time out. Armstrong, however, did have a mixed weekend and claimed his second win of the season in Saturday’s sprint race.

In the championship standings Armstrong is the best placed of the kiwi duo, sitting in sixth place. He sits 81 points behind runaway championship leader Felipe Drugovich, and with only six rounds remaining he will need to score big points over the next race weekends to contend. Lawson sits down in 10th, a further nine points behind Armstrong, with mixed form hampering his efforts to challenge the top contenders.

Where to Watch: Qualifying and both races will be shown live on Spark Sport

IndyCar: Hy-VeeDeals.com 250

Scott Dixon and Scott McLaughlin will both be aiming to replicate their successes of late with the 250 Lap race around the Iowa Speedway. In a return to the oval circuits, the tri-oval will see drivers race 223.5 miles over 250 Laps, with the average lap time of under 18 seconds promising a race of strategy combined with driver skill and mentality.

Dixon won last race out in Toronto, the first win of his season which equalled him with Mario Andretti in second place for all-time wins with 52. He currently sits fifth in the IndyCar standings, with a tight pack surrounding him, where he trails leader Marcus Ericsson by 44 points.

McLaughlin is also a contender in the championship in his second season as a full-time IndyCar racer. He sits in sixth place, 77 points behind Ericsson. McLaughlin has claimed two wins this season, the first coming in the season opener in St Petersburg and the latest being two race weekends ago in Mid-Ohio. He finished ninth last time out in Toronto, after a late safety car restart saw him drop several places when a top five finish looked likely.

The Indy Lights will support the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 with their own 75 Lap race covering 67 miles around the tri-oval in Iowa.

Hunter McElrea will be competing in this event, where he will be aiming to show similar form as he did in Mid-Ohio last time out, where he claimed his maiden win. The 22 year old sits fourth in the Indy Lights standings, 98 points behind runaway leader Linus Lundqvist.
