Maserati has taken the covers off an enhanced version of its MC20 supercar, revealing the limited run, track-only Project24.
By strapping a new set of turbochargers to the MC20’s original 3.0-litre ‘Nettuno’ V6, the P24 has raised its power from 463kW to 544kW. To cope with high g-force turns on the track, a dry sump oil system has been installed too.
Behind the V6 is a paddle operated six-speed sequential racing gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels through a racing clutch and limited-slip differential.
In the pursuit of lightness, the Project24 has a carbon-fibre monocoque and bodywork with specific components being made from natural fibres. Lexan front and side windows also shed mass, with Maserati aiming for a sub-1250kg total weight.
The car is expected to achieve a power-to-weight ratio of 0.435kW/kg.
Brembo carbon-ceramic stoppers push the Project24’s braking point further towards the apex while double-wishbone and adjustable racing dampers aid handling.
Design work was conducted by Centro Stile Maserati, with the brand saying the styling “pushes the boundaries to the limits, free of the constraints usually seen in a racing car.”
A plethora of racing equipment can be found inside including racing seats, an adjustable pedal and steering box, six-point racing harness, an optional rear-view camera display, and optional telemetry recording among other goodies.
Just 62 units will be made with a price-tag yet to be announced.
