A clean sweep of heat race wins preceded Brad Mosen’s Midas Midget All Stars Feature win at Baypark Speedway on Saturday night. The defending series champion selected the 6 car invert in the random draw placing him on the 3rd row alongside heat 3 winner Peter Hunnibell in his 1st outing in the BSL Racing team car.

Second row starter Mitch Osborne tore away to a comfortable lead in the early stages after passing Leon Burgess and pole sitter Aaron Hodgson who pushed the front end off of turn 2 slipping back to 5th place. Fourth place starting Michael Pickens and Mosen moved quickly into podium positions and gave chase. The pair of veterans battling in out in a slide job dual with Mosen getting the upper hand to lead the hunt for Osborne.

A Lap-8 incident involving Jordan McDonnell, Alac Insley and Christchurch driver Jack Low slowed proceedings and putting Mosen outside Osborne for the 2-wide restart. Inaugural Baypark Midget race winner Burgess restarted outside alongside Pickens.

Driving the Greenway sponsored #10a Mosen took the lead immediately with Osborne wheeling down the front straight in pursuit. Hunnibell then got past Burgess then onto the tail of Pickens as Mosen opened up a 2 second gap back to Osborne.

With 9 laps reaming Mosen hit lap traffic. Using all the track from pole to wall he carved his way through effortlessly, lapping up to 15th place for the win.

12a Mitch Osborne

In the final stages Osborne slipped over the cushion which gave Pickens more than a sniff of second place as he took the position. Osborne managing to rally back past the 9 time champion to take 2nd place.

Hunnibell was 4th with team mate Hayden Guptill 5th in his return to racing after a mid season crash side-lined him earlier in the year. Hodgson, Palmerston North’s Karl McGill, Burgess, Ben Mathews of Matamata and Kihikihi registered Mitch Fabish completing the top ten.

Winner 10a Brad Mosen

Other winners on the night were Daniel Thomas in Sprintcars, Craig Cardwell in the Super Saloons and Ross Ashby in the Super Stocks.

The next race at Baypark Speedway is the Bay Super Bowl & Fireworks Extravaganva on the 5th of November and the Midas Midget All Starts next race is at Western Springs Speedway on the 19th of November.
