Motorsport Diary: Kiwis racing overseas this weekend

With the Olympics on, motorsport action has quietened down slightly.

However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any Kiwis racing overseas to follow, with the Shannon’s SpeedSeries meet at Queensland Raceway seeing no less than seven New Zealanders in action.

Brendon Leitch, Tim Miles, and Jaxon Evans are competing in the GT World Challenge Australia, while Ben Stewart runs double duties in TCR Australia and the Toyota 86 Scholarship Series.

The Porsche Sprint Challenge also returns to action at the same meet, with Brock Gilchrist, Clay Osborne and Ayrton Hodson representing New Zealand.

Ryan Yardley and Madeline Stewart are also competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America in the United States.

Brendon Leitch and Tim Miles are third in the GT World Challenge Australia standings, sharing the Dayle ITM Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo 2.

Jaxon Evans is partnering with Elliott Schutte in one of Arise Racing’s GT Ferrari 296 GT3 and are one place behind Leitch and Miles in fourth.

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America enters the second half of the season with this weekend’s round at Road America.

Ryan Yardley is fourth in the standings, with five podium finishes in eight starts this season, including his maiden race win last round at Watkins Glen. Madeline Stewart is 16th.

Ben Stewart will make his TCR Australia debut aboard the 99motorsport Audi RS3 TCR in one of two series he is competing in this weekend.

Brock Gilchrist is locked in a fierce title battle with Australian Oscar Targett in the Porsche Sprint Challenge. Only 26 points separate the pair ahead of this weekend’s round at Queensland Raceway.

The duo have built an 89-point advantage over third-placed Hamish Fitzsimmons.

Clay Osborne is fifth in the standings, 26 points behind Fitzsimmons, while Ayrton Hodson has moved up to ninth.
