Bathurst legend Greg Murphy and stuntman Gary Reid are set for a unique partnership in the 2025 Shannons Adelaide Rally.
Their ride? A striking 1983-spec VH Commodore, a high-performance machine from Reid’s personal collection. This isn’t just any Commodore; it’s a VH ‘HDT Improved’, boasting a modified 5.0-litre V8 engine and distinctive styling.
Murphy, a four-time Bathurst 1000 champion with extensive experience and success in Commodores, brings a wealth of expertise to the team.
“I think I’m going to have to take my brave pills when I’m sitting next to Gary,” he admitted, hinting at the thrill-seeking antics likely to unfold. The rally’s relaxed atmosphere is a welcome change of pace, but that doesn’t diminish his excitement: “I’ve not done the Adelaide Rally before. We’ve heard it’s a great time. I’m looking forward to it.” he added.
Reid, renowned for his spectacular stunt work and burnouts at Supercars Championship events, adds a unique dimension to this already interesting pairing.
The Adelaide Rally will provide a perfect stage for his driving flair. “For an event like the Adelaide Rally,” Reid explained, “I just thought, ‘let’s pull this out and have some fun.'” This car holds a special place in his heart; it was his first “toy,” owned for 25 years and cherished since his first drive at just 13 years old. The Adelaide Rally will provide a fitting stage for this iconic vehicle.
The rally itself, scheduled for November 21-23, is set to attract over 400 entrants. It features a diverse range of competitive and non-competitive categories, offering a unique blend of motorsport excitement and community engagement.
The three-day event will traverse picturesque landscapes including the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula, and Adelaide CBD, encompassing up to 34 closed-road stages. Beyond the competitive driving, the event is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, encompassing events like the Gouger Street Party and designated spectator zones for enthusiastic fans.
