New Zealand Grand Prix scores global coverage deal with Motorsport.TV

Organisers from Speed Works Events and the Toyota Racing Series have confirmed an overseas broadcast rights deal with Motorsport.TV, which will see numerous Kiwi race series beamed around the world live — despite the lack of any overseas racers due in part to current Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The deal sees live coverage of this weekend’s New Zealand Grand Prix meeting and the series finale at Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon shown on the international streaming service.

The announcement comes following confirmation that Kiwi fans will be able to watch the full TRS season live on Spark Sport, with highlights to follow on TV3’s CRC Motorsport.

It also means that support categories present at each event, which for the NZ Grand Prix includes the Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship, RYCO 24•7 V8 Utes, and Motul Honda Cup, will also be covered on Motorsport.TV.

“We’ve had lots of interest in the Grand Prix event and in Manfeild since we confirmed our arrangements with Spark Sport and with Motorsport.TV streaming the GP build up, the televised classes and the big race itself,” says Speed Works’ Geoff Short.

“We’re happy we have all bases covered as best as we can for Kiwi and international fans watching to enjoy the action.”

The Toyota Racing Series recently finished up confirming its 16-driver grid for the Grand Prix, which includes the likes of Shane van Gisbergen, Andre Heimgartner, Greg Murphy, Chris van der Drift, and Kenny Smith.

I find it incredible that Australians and other overseas viewers had the luxury of free coverage whereas in NZ we had to pay Spark Sport to watch. I did as I had already paid a monthly subscription for the cricket – reluctantly. I did find the coverage poor especially compared to watching the Supercar V8 coverage. The graphics, commentary and general coverage was pretty average to say the least. If we have to pay I would expect to have had professional coverage so get your act together Spark Sport and also the organisers – disappointing the only fabulous outcome was the sensational drive by Gizzy!!!!
