New Zealand Grand Prix winner Liam Sceats wraps up his season in the USF Pro 2000 Championship this weekend at Portland International Raceway.
With five podiums, including a race win, to his name in 2024, Sceats sits fourth in the standings ahead of the double-header, 50 points outside the top three.
He has Christian Brooks and Simon Sikes close behind in the battle for an overall top-five spot but remains confident he can finish the season on a high.
“It’s another weekend where I will be driving the track for the first ever time, with catch-up to do against the competition in this respect,” he said.
“I’ve done plenty of laps on the sim around Portland and am feeling ready to be on to it straight out of the box. The track reminds me of New Zealand ones, with it being a short circuit and little room for error due to it not having much run-off.
“The aim is to qualify within the front two rows of the grid at the very least so that we have a prime chance of fighting for the win in both of the two races.
“I’m confident in the team that we will have a good platform to work with in terms of the car setup right from the first session.
“I have been told qualifying will be extremely close here, so it will be crucial that I squeeze everything out of my own and the car’s performance to give ourselves the best chance.”
Sceats’s weekend in Portland begins with qualifying at 7.55 am NZST on Saturday, ahead of Race 1 at 12.25 pm.
He returns a day later for the final race of the USF Pro 2000 season, which begins at 10.10 am NZST on Sunday.
