Shane van Gisbergen takes another win

Shane van Gisbergen took his second win of the weekend at Albert Park extending his lead in the Larry Perkins Trophy standings which he now leads by 12 points with one race remaining. 

Scott Pye, Andre Heimgartner and Jack Le Brocq all started the race on the hard tyres, planning to run long into the race before stopping to put on the soft tyres. 

Anton De Pasquale took the lead of the race into turn one ahead of teammate Davison. 

Van Gisbergen dropped a spot early to Reynolds moving into fourth on the opening lap, soon having to defend Slade behind in fifth. 

De Pasquale looked strong early pulling a one-second lead on the opening lap. 

Pye pitted at the end of the opening lap with a damaged right tyre having had an off-track moment early on the opening lap dropping him to the back of the field. 

After a strong start to the race, De Pasquale ran wide through the gravel and grass at turn 1, losing the lead, and dropping to third in the process. The moment also allowed van Gisbergen to close the gap to the leading pack. 

Van Gisbergen took the lead of the race on lap 6, with Reynolds electing to take his pitstop shortly after the move, while the kiwi made his stop a lap later, exiting the lane in what would be second after the remaining pit stops.

While attempting a move on van Gisbergen De Pasquale, who was attempting to make the most of his warmer tyres, lost a spot to Reynolds, who capitalised on the moment. 

With nine laps remaining van Gisbergen closed the gap to Davison, sitting comfortably within half a second of the leader, making the move for the effective race lead soon after. 

Will Brown was forced to make a late pit stop for fresh tyres with two laps remaining, as he struggled with tyre damage, which has been an issue through the weekend, however it was a hard tyre that was damaged. 

Despite drifting through the last few corners van Gisbergen crossed the line 5.6 seconds clear of Davison to take his second win of the day, while Reynolds picked up another podium result for Grove Racing. 

Andre Himgartner was bone of the drivers to run long into the race before pitting for new tyres, ending the race in 18th with fellow Kiwi narrowly behind

The Supercars will be back on track for their final race at 2 pm Sunday afternoon.
