Shane van Gisbergen wins second race in Tasmania

Shane van Gisbergen has taken his second win of the weekend in an action packed race in Tasmania.

Broc Feeney got a good start to the race, leading into turn one ahead of van Gisbergen, who fell into second place.

The safety car was brought out early in the race, after Jack Le Brocq and Andre Heimgartner locked wheels, sending them both into the tyre wall on the outside of the final turn.

After a lap under the safety car race control elected to put out the red flag, so officials could repair the damage to the tyre barrier.

Le Brocq’s car got the worst of the damage, hitting the wall almost head-on, the car qualified on the front row of the grid for the final race of the weekend, with around two hours for the team to repair the car.

Feeney led the feild back to the restart with SVG making the pass to take the lead at the end of the lap.

Shortly after the restart, officials deemed the opening lap crash as a racing incident with no further action. The same was said for an incident between Macauly Jones, Jack Smith and Jake Kostecki, as they tried to go three-wide through the hairpin soon after the restart.

After initially attempting to continue in the race, Heimgartner’s car was brought into the pit lane as the water temperature started rising.

Tim Slade had a big moment off track after contact with Cam Waters, though he was able to get back on track and continue on, with Waters ultimately receiving a pit lane penalty for the incident.

Van Gisbergen made his pit stop on lap 27, coming back out on track behind teammate Feeney, with SVG moving back into the lead on lap 31.

Thomas Randle was spun on the exit of the hairpin, near the end of the race after contact with Bryce Fullwood, who received a pit lane penalty, though as Randle was parked on the banking he was unable to finish the race.

Van Gisbergen took his second win of the weekend, with Feeney in second, taking his first podium result, and Reynolds rounding out the podium.

Pither crossed the line in 11th narrowly missing out on a top ten result, Heimgartner didn’t finish the race as a result of the damage.
