Toyota power for Allan Sargeant ahead of new GT New Zealand Championship season

The much-anticipated Toyota Supra GT4 EVO will make its debut in the Summerset GT New Zealand Championship at Taupo this weekend in the hands of car owner Allan Sargeant.

Sargeant is no stranger to GT racing, having successfully campaigned a Ginetta G55 GT4 the last few seasons, picking up podiums and race wins, claiming fourth overall in the GT4 Class last season.

“The Ginetta has been a great car, and I’ve really enjoyed racing it over the last few seasons. But the opportunity to step into a new car is very exciting,” says Sargeant.

“I’m looking forward to the start of the new season and another crack at the GT4 title in a new car.

“It will be bit of a step up from the 2018 G55 Ginetta. The Toyota Supra GT4 EVO has a bit more HP & Torque, not to mention aircon so I should be more competitive and able to mix it more with the McLarens and AMGs.”

With some testing miles already under his belt, Sargeant is eager to head to round one of the Championship this weekend at Taupo.

“Testing went well. Compared to the Ginetta, the Supra has better balanced handling, more HP and low-end torque, but is heavier. It is stronger out of corners under acceleration and straight-line speed. Where with the Ginetta you had to drive more defensively, I think the Supra will give you more to attack with.”

New to the GT New Zealand Championship, the Toyota Supra GT4 EVO boasts a three-litre in-line six-cylinder engine with single twin-scroll turbocharger has been tuned to 430hp with a seven-speed sports automatic transmission with paddle shift and the mechanical limited slip differential driving the rear wheels.

A second Toyota Supra GT4 EVO will arrive in the country shortly, and be run out of the Race Lab team alongside the Sargeant machine.

Round one of the Summerset GT New Zealand Championship gets underway at this weekend at Taupo International Motorsport Park November 22-25.
