Two from two for Heimgartner in pre-season testing

Andre Heimgartner has once again emerged at the top of the time sheets in Supercars official pre-season testing at Sydney Motorsport Park this afternoon.

That makes it two from two for the Kiwi after his blistering morning time, set on new soft tyres, eclipsed the field by over a second.

The Brad Jones Racing driver topped Will Brown once again albeit with a much tighter margin, only .0157 of a second separating the duo.

Chevrolet dominated the afternoon session with 11 of the top 12 running Camaros. Todd Hazlewood was the sole respite for Ford, setting the ninth fastest time with Chaz Mostert next best in 13th.

Macauley Jones and Jack Smith once again proved their worth, finishing fourth and fifth respectively with Brodie Kostecki holding on for third for a two-three for Erebus.

Bryce Fullwood was sixth fastest, making for a solid outing for Brad Jones Racing with all four drivers in the top six.

Shane van Gisbergen was back at the right end of the ladder in seventh whilst his Red Bull Racing teammate Broc Feeney was 10th.

The other Kiwi in the field, Matt Payne, showed great pace all day to finish with the 17th best time.

Driving remained clean with the field all completing close to 100 laps throughout the day. Minor mechanical gremlins hurt Nick Percat and Scott Pye and limited their testing time but the interference to the rest of the field was minimal.

With official testing now complete teams are able to continue to run private sessions, including Triple Eight who will take to Queensland Raceway on Monday.

There is also rumours of further VCAT testing taking place during the week due to a perceived imbalance in downforce between the Camaro and Mustang.

It makes for a frantic two weeks ahead of the season-opening Newcastle 500 on March 10-12.
