The first two weekends of August have been reserved for Silverstone by Formula 1 should UK government quarantine restrictions allow personnel to travel freely at that time.
The European leg of the revised 2020 calendar is expected to be revealed on early next week.
Originally slated for a mid-July slot in the revised calendar, the introduction of a 14-day quarantine for UK arrivals from June 8 forced F1 to delay Silverstone’s inclusion in the calendar and move Hungary into its July dates.
However, the UK government has become increasingly supportive of the British round – including vocal support from prime minister Boris Johnson. This has given the sport the confidence to secure August 2 and 9 for the British events.
The latter date has also become available following the cancellation of the Silverstone Classic.
Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle had previously emphasised that later dates than those originally planned are viable.
