The Landspeed New Zealand Association (LSNZ) hosted its annual speed trial event on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Goudies Road near Reporoa.

This gathering attracted 29 entrants, some eager to challenge New Zealand land speed records and others seeking the exhilaration of high-speed driving in a controlled environment.

Goudies Road, renowned for its straight and flat 7-kilometer stretch, provided an ideal venue for participants to explore their vehicles’ top speeds. The event featured various vehicles, including modified motorcycles and high-performance cars. The annual event continued LSNZ’s tradition of offering enthusiasts a platform to test their machines against national records.

LSNZ has a history of facilitating record-breaking performances. Notably, on March 9, 2024, Cole Scammell achieved a remarkable speed of 377 km/h (235.62 mph) on his turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa, setting a new record for land speed racing on New Zealand roads.

Patric Nussbaum set the top bike speed for last weekend’s event on his Suzuki 1340cc Turbo Hayabusa, achieving an impressive one-way top speed of 362.800kph.

Rob Anderson set the top car speed, achieving an impressive one-way top speed of 315.7980kph in his Bentley Speed W12. This beat a 2017 Lamborghini Huracan, which wasn’t far behind with a one-way top speed of 310.2370kph.

Beyond pursuing records, the event fostered a sense of community among automotive enthusiasts. Spectators and participants shared in the excitement, with the pit area offering amenities such as free camping, toilets, showers, and catering services. These provisions contributed to a festive atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience for all attendees.

The success of the 2025 event underscores LSNZ’s commitment to promoting land-speed racing in New Zealand. By providing a safe and well-organized environment, the association continues to support both seasoned racers and newcomers in their quest for speed and performance.
