Jet-setting Jaxon Evans hails improved Darwin weekend

Jaxon Evans has left Darwin with his head held high after a fraught Repco Supercars round at Hidden Valley Raceway.

In Saturday’s race, pace alluded the SCT Logistics-backed driver, and his low starting position was compounded when he was handed a penalty for contact with a rival. He would go on to finish in 21st place.

Evans then qualified 16th for Sunday’s outing and sliced his way forward in the 48-lap race to finish on the cusp of the top 10 in 11th.

“There’s no hiding from the fact that we weren’t happy with Saturday’s results,” said the Kiwi. “Obviously, not only in qualifying but the way the race panned out. Even without a penalty, it looked like we were struggling for car speed and maybe on the wrong strategy compared to others.

“Sunday was a good turnaround, and we were much happier with our qualifying performance. P16 isn’t where we want to be, but it was a good step forward, and we closed the gap with the cars in front.

“We went into the race positive that we had a car underneath us where we could continue to work forward.

“We were on the fringes of the top 10, and it’s frustrating not to be in the top ten, but that’s just part of it. I think it was a good step forward, and things are trending in the right direction. So, a big thanks to the team for the turnaround.”

From here, Evans is heading to Japan to compete in Fanatec GT Asia with Phantom Global Racing in the team’s Porsche.

Evans will drive alongside Sun Jingzu, before contesting the 100th running of the 24 Hours of Spa in an all-Pro driving line-up, featuring Joel Eriksson and Thomas Preining.

“The travel started with a lovely red-eye home back to Brisbane, and now we will repack the bags, do some washing, and prep all our gear for Townsville before jumping on a plane to Sydney on Tuesday and flying out to Japan on Wednesday morning where I will be reuniting with Phantom Global and racing in the GT World Challenge Asia Series in a Porsche,” he added.

“I am really excited to go to Mount Fuji. It will be my first time in Japan and my first time at that iconic track, so I am looking forward to a fun weekend and hopefully a successful one as well.”

To cap off his run of four-straight races, Evans will return to the SCT Logistics Camaro for Round 6 of the Supercars Championship in Townsville.
