Fresh off a career-best Formula 1 finish of sixth place at the Austrian Grand Prix, Liam Lawson is set to return to familiar territory this weekend as F1 returns to Silverstone for the 2025 British Grand Prix, a circuit where the Kiwi has enjoyed a long and successful history across junior categories.
Before joining the F1 grid full-time, Lawson established his foundation at Silverstone during his rise through the ranks of Formula 3 and Formula 2 between 2019 and 2022, accumulating podiums, wins, and valuable experience at the iconic British venue.
In Formula 2, Lawson made two visits to Silverstone. In 2022, with Carlin, he qualified fifth. He was running strongly in the Sprint Race before a minor clash with Theo Pourchaire resulted in a broken front wing and an unplanned pit stop, which dropped him to 20th.
However, he bounced back in the Feature Race, taking third place, his fifth podium of the season, on the way to finishing third overall in the F2 Championship that year.

The season prior, in 2021, with Hitech GP, Lawson qualified 11th after a red flag interrupted a promising lap. Still, he fought his way to seventh in Race 1, fifth in Race 2, and maintained position in the Feature Race to finish 11th, earning solid points despite battling tyre degradation and a lack of pace compared to the front-runners.
He ultimately finished eighth in the standings in his rookie F2 campaign.
Lawson’s Silverstone success was even more prominent in Formula 3. During the compressed 2020 Covid-impacted season, Silverstone hosted back-to-back race weekends, and Lawson was a force across both.
In the first round, he qualified second, pulled off a stunning move at Stowe to take the lead, and won the Feature Race, later crossing the finish line in the pit lane under Safety Car.

He added seventh in Race 2 for more points. A week later, he again qualified second, converted it into a third-place podium in Race 1, and added a fifth-place finish in Race 2, helping him claim fifth overall in the championship.
In his rookie F3 season in 2019, Lawson delivered MP Motorsport’s first-ever podium with the new generation car, finishing third in Race 2 at Silverstone after a seventh-place qualifying and eighth-place finish in Race 1.

It was a pivotal turning point in a season marred by mechanical issues early on, showcasing his racecraft and potential on the world stage.
Across four consecutive seasons (2019–2022), Lawson earned five podiums at Silverstone, including a win, in both F2 and F3 machinery.
The technical layout and fast, flowing nature of the circuit have historically suited his aggressive but precise driving style, and the Red Bull junior has regularly found ways to move forward even from difficult starting positions.
Now, with momentum behind him from a breakthrough F1 result in Spielberg, Lawson returns to Silverstone not just with familiarity but with confidence and form.
Given his past success at the British circuit and the upward trajectory of his 2025 campaign, Lawson could be poised to deliver another standout performance this weekend.
