Up-and-coming US teenager David Morales is the latest addition to the 2023 Toyota Racing Series field which begins just next month.

Morales hails from Florida and is of Argentine and Dominican descent. He’ll join M2 Competition for the five-round series which includes the New Zealand Grand Prix.

M2 Competition’s Mark Pilcher says Morales has made the right move to come and race in 2023’s TRS.

“It’s great that David and his family can see the benefit of TRS for a driver,” he said. “Everyone at M2 Competition will be happy to provide him all start 2023 in New Zealand, the tools required to improve and get some strong results to set him off for a great 2023 season.”

Morales is also excited at the opportunities the series could present following a strong showing, indicating he’s here to challenge the field.

“2023 is going to be a big year for me, I’m aiming to get to another level with my driving, and TRS has given a lot of other drivers the opportunity to do that,” he said.

“So many big names in racing have come up through the series on their way to higher formulas, and I’m going to do my best to add myself to that list.”

At just 19 years old Morales has already established a solid foundation in junior single seater categories around the world, including full-time drives in the 2019 Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series, 2019-20 NACAM Formula 4 Championship, 2021 British Formula 4 Championship and 2022 Formula Regional Asian Championship and GB3 Championship.

All this follows a successful karting career from 2012 until 2014 which saw him place as high as eighth in the Florida Winter Tour – Rotax Micro Max series.

His name joins a growing list of international competitors for the first season since Covid restrictions limited overseas travel. Other names thus far include W-Series star Chloe Chambers, Australian teen sensation Tom McLennan and multiple US Formula 4 race winner Ryan Shehan.

With just one month to go before the season begins, Morales’ signing adds some further flair to an already stacked field.

The first round takes place at Highlands Motorsport Park on 13-15 January.
