Sceats ready to rumble in USF Pro 2000 Toronto street circuit outing

New Zealand Grand Prix winner Liam Sceats returns to the USF Pro 2000 Championship this weekend to compete in the penultimate round on the Streets of Toronto.

It will be just the second street-course outing of the TJ Speed Motorsports driver’s career, but he achieved a podium on debut in the opening round of 2024 in St. Petersburg.

Since then, he has taken three further podiums, including one race win, to enter this weekend’s double-header in fifth in the standings, only 61 points outside the top three.

“This is the event I have been looking forward to the most this year,” said Sceats. “We race right in the city centre of Toronto, so I’m excited to be able to race in front of a massive turnout of people and amongst a fantastic event as a whole.

“My first time on a street circuit at St Petersburg was a great experience, coming with a podium on debut. I’m feeling quietly confident that we can be super fast here and contest for the podium places during my first race in Canada, as the team has a lot of experience here and has all won here in the past.

“The Toronto street circuit is renowned for being an incredibly bumpy track, with concrete walls everywhere. It will be challenging and a great learning experience. This track is famous for chaos, so half the job will be about navigating through the mayhem and keeping my nose clean.

“The last race weekend at Mid Ohio was tough, so the focus is now on bringing what we learned with us as momentum to bounce back strongly.

“We’re still sitting comfortably in fifth place in this tough championship, but of course, I want to move up the championship standings to the podium, which is still possible. “

USF Pro 2000 is racing in support of IndyCar in Toronto, where a debuting Hunter McElrea will join Scott Dixon, Scott McLaughlin, and Marcus Armstrong.

Sceats’s opening race begins at 8.30 am on Sunday, followed by Race 2 at 12.55 am on Monday. Racing can be watched by a free live stream on the USF Pro Championship’s YouTube channel.
