Anton de Pasquale claimed pole position for the first race of the weekend in Perth, while Shane van Gisbergen will start from the second row of the grid after qualifying in third.
Supercars used the knockout qualifying format for the first race of the weekend. As the first stage of qualifying got underway much of the top end of pit lane stayed in the lane waiting for others to finish their first run hoping to avoid the worst of the traffic, which was expected to be an issue during the session.
Those that had stayed in the lane headed out with just over 7 minutes remaining in the session.
Jack Le Brocq was amongst the group to go out at the start of the session, jumping to the top of the timesheets after his 53.95-second lap, electing to get out of the car expecting the time to be enough to get him into the next stage.
While Le Brocq would drop back as others completed their runs it was enough to get through to the next stage.
Some cars again elected to stay in the lane at the start of the second stage.
The order looked different at the end of the second stage with Andre Heimgartner sitting at the top of the timesheets, while van Gisbergen held on to a place in the top ten. Will Davison who had been strong in the earlier sessions knocked out after making a mistake on what looked to be his best lap leaving him 12th.
The final stage of qualifying saw van Gisbergen jump to the top of the timesheets after his final lap, though he wouldn’t remain there with Anton de Pasquale and Cam Waters going quicker than the 53.8-second lap he set, to finish first and second respectively.
Heimgartner ended the session seventh, set to start on the fourth row of the grid alongside Broc Feeney. Chris Pither is set to start from 20th in tonight’s race.
The race will get underway at 10.40 pm tonight.
