Brown, Feeney share Supercars poles in Perth

Will Brown will start this afternoon’s Supercars Race 8 at the Perth SuperSprint on pole, with Broc Feeney setting the track record in Race 9 qualifying to take top spot.

The three-strong Kiwi contingent are in for a big afternoon of racing, with Matt Payne’s eighth in Race 8 qualifying the best of the day.

It was Brown who bounced back from a disappointing 22nd in yesterday’s qualifying, the Erebus driver paving the way late in the first session with a 54.2450, .0404 seconds faster than second-placed David Reynolds.

Anton De Pasquale will start today’s opener from third, next to championship leader Brodie Kostecki. James Courtney, Chaz Mostert and Will Davison round out the top seven, with Payne the best of the Kiwis in eighth.

Payne has yesterday’s winner Shane van Gisbergen starting behind in ninth, the defending champion locking out the fifth row with Tim Slade. Andre Heimgartner will start Race 8 in 14th.

Feeney’s 54.1828, set midway through the second run, was enough to beat Reynold’s previous track record of 54.2133, set during yesterday’s running, to take pole for Race 9. It was a welcome relief for the Red Bull driver having only managed the 21st fastest time in Race 8 qualifying.

Kostecki was second fastest, ahead of teammate Brown and Reynolds off the second row. Davison, Slade, Mostert, Thomas Randle, Cam Waters and Nick Percat round out the top 10.

Heimgartner was the best of the Kiwis in Race 9 qualifying, with 15th, one spot to the good of rookie Payne. An uncharacteristic qualifying result sees van Gisbergen with plenty of work to do out of 21st in this evening’s race.

Race 8 begins at 3.45 pm with Race 9 at 7. 45 pm. Both will be shown live on Sky Sport 5.
