MotorSport New Zealand has appointed Craig Baird MNZM as a new Board Member, bringing a wealth of international motorsport experience and road-tested governance expertise to the organisation.
One of New Zealand’s most successful and respected motorsport competitors, Baird is a veteran professional driver with countless national championship victories across multiple categories worldwide. His career includes time as a factory driver for several leading global manufacturers, competing at the highest levels of touring car and GT racing.
Beyond his on-track success, Baird brings significant off-track expertise in risk assessment, motorsport safety, and high-level driver standards. He has served as the Driving Standards Advisor for Supercars and GT categories across Asia, and is currently the Head of the Supercars Drivers Safety Group, where he plays a critical role in advocating for driver safety and contributing to the continual improvement of safety systems at elite levels of the sport.
MotorSport New Zealand President Deborah Day welcomed the appointment, noting the rare combination of competitive pedigree and governance-relevant experience Baird brings to the Board.
“Craig is someone who understands our sport from every angle; competitor, professional driver, safety advocate, and technical advisor,” Day said.
“His insights into safety, risk management, and the international motorsport landscape will be invaluable as we continue to develop and modernise motorsport in New Zealand.”
Baird said he was honoured to join the MotorSport New Zealand Board and contribute to the future of the sport.

MotorSport New Zealand also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Board Member Ron Mackersey, who did not seek re-appointment at the conclusion of his term.
“Ron’s service and commitment to MotorSport New Zealand over his time on the Board is sincerely appreciated,” Day said.
“His knowledge, considered input and dedication to the organisation have made an impact, and we thank him for his valuable contribution to the governance of our sport.”
