Davies dominates! 17-year-old Kiwi captures maiden 250SX victory

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, 17-year-old New Zealand native Cole Davies clinched his first-ever overall victory in the 250SX class at the Seattle round of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross Championship. This overall win marks a significant milestone in Davies’ rising career, highlighting his rapid ascent in the world of professional supercross racing.

Davies’ journey to this achievement has been nothing short of impressive. After making his U.S. debut in 2023, he quickly gained attention by winning the opening qualifying round of Supercross Futures at Anaheim 2.

He continued his success by securing his second 250SX Futures victory at the championship-deciding round in Salt Lake City, ultimately being crowned the 2024 Supercross Futures AMA National Champion. These accomplishments paved the way for his transition to the professional ranks with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing in 2025.

Upon joining the pro-level Star Racing team, Davies expressed his readiness for the challenge, stating,

“I’m ready to step it up with the big dogs. The off-season has been good to me, and I’m feeling confident that I can go ride to my potential and get some good results.”

In the Seattle 250SX main event, Davies showcased exceptional composure and racing prowess. Navigating the technical track with precision, he fended off seasoned competitors to secure the top spot on the podium. This victory not only underscores his talent but also signals his potential as a formidable contender in the 250SX class.

Davies stormed across the finish line 2.7 seconds ahead of Garrett Marchbanks, while fastest qualifier Deegan—rocking prison-orange gear in a bold nod to his recent traffic-related arrest—bounced back from a high-side crash after tagging Davies’ rear wheel to claw his way to third.

When the gates slammed down for the 250 Main, Davies rocketed to the holeshot, but Beaumer wasted no time seizing the lead. Davies, however, struck back within the opening lap, reclaiming the top spot and never looking back, cruising to his first career main event victory unchallenged.

“It’s been a long journey, it’s a lot of work to get here, and I just can’t thank the people enough that have helped me get here, and you know I’m just stoked, man. To my parents, my sisters watching back home and my family and friends watching back home too, and my fans.. and yeah, my mechanic Lockie too, he’s moved across the country to come mechanic for me. I can’t thank him enough, especially the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team.

“I feel like this one has been long overdue. I’m stoked to get this one done,” said Davies

In the championship standings, Deegan stretched his lead over Beaumer from 12 to 15 points, while round winner Davies climbed to third, now holding a 10-point advantage over Jo Shimoda.

Davies’ triumph in Seattle is a testament to his dedication and the support of the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team. As the 2025 season progresses, the supercross community will undoubtedly be watching this young rider’s career with great interest, anticipating further successes on the track.
