Points for Lawson in French F2 Feature Race

Following his FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race victory on Saturday, Liam Lawson has climbed the championship standings after a solid points scoring Feature Race.

The Kiwi driver finished in sixth place which was enough to move him up the leaderboard from tenth in the championship to fifth.

“Reasonably happy with the weekend in general,” said Lawson.

“Obviously yesterday (Sprint Race) was really really nice, the car was very good and we scored some good points.

“Straightaway from the start, I felt at least equal with the guys in front if not a bit faster. Overall, over the whole lap, I think it (the car) was consistently good. So big thanks to Carlin, they did a great job.”

Fellow New Zealand driver Marcus Armstrong didn’t quite have the same success this weekend. After dropping from eighth to 11th, Armstrong was sent into a spin and ultimately retired after coming into contact with Van Amersfoort at turn 13.

It was Ayumu Iwasa who took his maiden win in Formula 2 on Sunday, putting in a dominant drive after just missing out on the victory at Silverstone. The DAMS driver executed a perfect overtake on the opening lap to pull ahead of his rivals, reaching the chequered flag a comfortable 8.6 seconds seconds clear.

Théo Pourchaire finished the Feature Race in second after being demoted off the Sprint Race Podium after receiving a five-second time penalty.

Third place went to Frederik Vesti, taking his third podium of his rookie campaign.

We next join F2 in Budapest between July 29 to 31 for a race around the 4.38km Hungaroring circuit.
